Volunteers are important members of our hospital team and play an integral role in the support of the services provided to the patients, their families, and staff.

Annually, 500 caring and dedicated volunteers contribute approximately 50,000 hours of service in support of a wide variety of programs.

Revenue Generation

The QCH Gift Box

  • The QCH Gift Box is not your average hospital gift shop! Our Boutique style shop has something for everyone. Our shop is a major source of revenue generation for the Hospital with monies raised being used to purchase much-needed medical equipment. The Gift Box serves the needs of patients, staff, and visitors. It provides a valuable service in retailing everything from pre and post-op surgical items, flowers, cards, dry cleaning services, much-needed afternoon snacks, and lovely gifts for a patient or friend. Volunteers perform a variety of tasks including, cashier duties, opening and closing procedures, assisting customers, ensuring the displays are full and clean, and pricing merchandise for sale.
  • The Gift Box is open 9 am to 8 pm Monday to Friday and 9 am to 4 pm Saturday and Sunday. We are closed on Statutory Holidays.

OLG Lotto Kiosk

  • The OLG Kiosk is a full-service OLG lottery retailer. As a revenue-generating activity, the OLG also raises funds for the Hospital. Volunteers sell and validate tickets, perform cash duties including opening and closing procedures, ensure the Kiosk is clean and supplies are stocked. The OLG is as great opportunity to engage with patients, visitors, and staff.
  • The lottery operates 9 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday only. We are closed on Statutory Holidays.

Patient Support

Patient Care Units

Volunteers provide friendly visiting and engagement with patients, carry out activities such as distributing ice water, and/or social and leisure activities. Operates 7 days a week, including weekends.

Cancer Care Program

Volunteers are the first point of contact for all patients and visitors arriving at IGFCC. Volunteers provide general assistance and comfort to patients and relatives in the waiting area and support the resources center. Operates on weekdays only. Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.

Spiritual and Religious Care

Volunteers spend time with and provide spiritual and religious support for patients. Applicants must have completed a registered training program and be approved and supported in writing by their faith tradition and the Spiritual Care Department. Operates 7 days a week, including evenings.

Information Desk

Volunteers greet patients and members of the public at the entrance of the hospital, provide directions and way-finding and deal with general inquiries, as well as assistance with phone transfers to patient rooms. Operates 7 days a week, including weekends.

Administrative Support

Administrative Support

Various departments throughout the hospital call upon support from volunteers to assist with basic office or clerical functions such as collating, filing, photocopying, and reception. Areas include: Human Resources, Occupational Health, Foundation, Volunteer Resources, and Ambulatory Care Clinics. Operates on weekdays only.
