Queensway Carleton Hospital (QCH) is inviting applications for the position of Chief of Psychiatry. This leadership role oversees a dedicated and skilled team providing expert care to over 800 in-patients and manages more than 9,000 out-patient visits annually in our state-of-the-art Mental Health building, nestled in the green spaces of west Ottawa. Opened in 2022, the facility features beautiful, sunny private rooms for acute care, complemented by a new out-patient clinic that began operations in 2023. The team of 11 psychiatrists and over 70 staff members deliver compassionate, expert care in a safe, equitable, and inclusive environment.

About the Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and skilled Chief of Psychiatry to help us deliver world-class care both within and beyond our walls.

 

Working under the general direction of the Chief of Staff, the Chief, Department of Psychiatry provides medical, administrative and strategic leadership to enhance the Department and to help achieve the hospital’s strategic goals. The Chief of Psychiatry will be responsible for the professional practice and quality of care provided by its departmental staff members. The Chief will also work with Senior Leadership, Patient Care Directors, Department Chiefs and members of the professional staff to plan and ensure optimum utilization of available resources and the strategic direction of the organization. A shared leadership model with the Patient Care Director is utilized. Additional departmental duties are laid out in the Queensway Carleton By-laws and policies including committee memberships, performance management of department members and human resource management within the department and reporting departmental updates to the Medical Advisory Committee.

 

Qualifications/Experience

    • An independent license or eligibility for an independent license with the CPSO.
    • FRCPC Certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada - Psychiatry.
    • Hospital privileges or eligibility for hospital privileges with the ability to provide clinical services consistent with other members of the department
    • Significant clinical and administrative experience with a history of excellence, leadership, team engagement and collaboration at a department, program and organizational level.
    • Strategic management experience, with the ability to set and meet targets, understand and interpret analytics and undertake significant change management.

Psychiatrist

Queensway Carleton Hospital (QCH) has openings for full-time or locum psychiatrists to join our collaborative team. QCH is a medium-sized, 355-bed acute care hospital in west Ottawa with a brand new 28-bed Mental Health Inpatient unit.

The Mental Health Department offers a range of general adult psychiatric services including an acute adult inpatient services, adult outpatient psychiatry services, emergency psychiatric consultation services and mental health crisis intervention nurse service, day treatment program and other outpatient psychotherapy groups, ECT service, and inpatient consultation-liaison service.

The candidate must hold a Royal College specialization in Psychiatry.

There is sessional funding available in addition to OHIP billings. There are opportunities for involvement in teaching through the University of Ottawa if this is an interest.

Neurology Opportunity

Recruitment for Adult Neurologist
Queensway Carleton Hospital (QCH) has an opening for one neurologist to join our collegial group.
The Neurology Division provides comprehensive adult neurology care, including inpatient consultations, ambulatory care clinics (general neurology and stroke prevention clinic), electroencephalogram (EEG), and electromyography (EMG) services. Our current model involves weekday coverage. However, as we expand, this will extend into weekends and evenings. QCH is not a tPA center, so stroke code coverage is not expected. The group can assist interested candidates in finding community clinic space, which will be needed to complete your practice.

 

Requirement
The candidate must hold a Royal College specialization in adult neurology.

Queensway Carleton Hospital (QCH) has an opening for one Cardiologist to join our collegial group.
The Cardiology Division provides comprehensive adult cardiology care, including inpatient consultations, Heart Failure Clinic, Cardiopulmonary Services (Transthoracic and Transesophageal Echocardiogram, Holter, Electrocardiogram, Exercise ECG and Acute Chest Pain/Rapid Referral Clinic). Additional diagnostic services include Persantine and Exercise Nuclear Stress Testing. Our on-call model for sub-specialists involves daytime and after-hours coverage for Medicine and ICU physicians. QCH is not a revascularization center.
Opportunity to join a busy outpatient cardiology practice which would complement hospital privileges.

General Surgeon

Queensway Carleton Hospital, in Ottawa, Ontario, is looking to hire a General Surgeon. Start date to be determined depending on the successful candidate’s availability.

 

Full access to regular OR time and endoscopy time at QCH guaranteed for summer of 2027. Prior to July 2027 the successful applicant would be offered two OR days a month. Endoscopy time would be offered but not necessarily on a weekly basis at QCH. The successful applicant would also be expected to participate in the acute care service for at least 4 weeks a year. ACS weeks offer additional daily elective time to the surgeon in the morning and on call cases in the afternoon.


The Department will support you in obtaining additional resources including OR and endoscopy at a nearby community hospital with which QCH has a strong relationship.
