QCH Launches New Volunteer Role to Support Patients at Park Place
April 02, 2026
April 2026 - Ottawa, ON - Queensway Carleton Hospital (QCH) is excited to announce a new volunteer opportunity that brings companionship and meaningful engagement to patients at our off-site inpatient unit, Park Place.
Beginning Summer 2026, our new C.A.R.E. Team (Cognitive and Recreational Engagement) -- lead by our Recreation Therapy staff -- will help patients stay socially connected, engaged, and supported. Volunteers in this program work closely with the Recreational Therapists by:
- Assisting with group activities
- Completing one-on-one visits with a small number of patients
- Engaging patients through simple, structured, and meaningful interactions such as conversations and social check-ins that support cognitive stimulation and help prevent delirium.
QCH is also recruiting volunteers for Friendly Visiting on our Rehabilitation & Medicine Units at QCH, where volunteers provide companionship through conversation, reading, and small comforts.
Applications are now open for the Adult Volunteer Program. Apply today!
