In alignment with the strategic focus of advancing patient and family-centred critical care, the Provincial Rollout of the Electronic Family Satisfaction in the Intensive Care Unit (PREF) initiative implements the electronic version of the Family Satisfaction in the ICU (FS-ICU) survey in ICUs across Ontario. This is a joint initiative between Critical Care Services Ontario (CCSO) and The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) and is funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC).


The FS-ICU is a validated survey tool and used internationally to obtain feedback on family satisfaction with ICU care and decision-making. The PREF initiative will provide local ICUs (including QCH) with a mechanism to receive continuous feedback on family satisfaction while also facilitating the analysis of provincial and regional scorecard metrics to support system level patient and family experience improvement in Ontario ICUs. At QCH ICU a PREF survey access code and iPad (for survey completion) will be provided prior to ICU discharge. Please ask you nurse for a PREF survey today!
