Who is cared for in the ICU?
The Intensive Care Unit at Queensway Carleton Hospital is a critical care unit that provides medical care to all critically-ill patients. The ICU takes care of all medical and surgical patients at the hospital who require life sustaining measures or need vigilant medical attention or specialized monitoring and treatment.
Critically-ill patients admitted to the ICU are cared for by a multidisciplinary health team involving a critical care certified physician (intensivist), registered nurses, respiratory therapists, registered dietitians, pharmacists, physiotherapists, social workers and a variety of allied health professionals to ensure optimal medical care and best patient outcomes. A variety of support systems also exist for family and care partners, please ask us how we can better help you.
